Collection Update : 07.11.2016

Silver Surfer Haul November 2016

It has been a while since I last done a collection update, which if you have been following my blog is due to a variety of reasons. Not to worry yourselves though as I am back with another update and Haul, so strap and and get ready for some awesome covers directly beamed into your eyeholes.

Marvel Age Issue #52

The first issue I am going to start with is this beautiful Marvel Age Issue #52. I was not actively looking for this comic, however on one of my eBay binges (when I search silver surfer comics and go mad) I came across this issue for only 99p. How could anyone, let alone myself turns this down.

Artwork on the front is just a perfect enticement to draw you into the Silver Surfer world. This was magically created by Marshall Rogers.

Now the quality of the comic itself is not great but I am happy with it considering the price I paid (I will look out for a more pristine copy).

Marvel Age was a promotion comic book released between 1983 – 1994. It was a monthly collection of previews showcasing the new release from the Marvel world. This issue from July 1987 has its focus on the Silver Surfer. It contains some really cool articles about the comic book including;

  • The History of the Silver Surfer
  • Silver Surfer New Projects
  • The new Silver Surfer Series

There is a lot of silver surfer knowledge jammed into this little comic magazine so I can not wait to get stuck in and read them all.

Marvel Age Issue 52 - July 1987

Silver Surfer Vol 8, Issue #7

Issue #7 is the latest release from the Main Line Silver Surfer comic book, brought to us by the amazing Dan Slott, Michael Allred and Laura Allred.
This issue finds the Silver Surfer and Dawn Greenwood back in space after some time saving Earth ‘again’. Being back in space however does not mean they are safe? or does it.

I will be doing a review of this issue soon so keep an eye on my twitter for that.

Silver Surfer, Volume 8. Issue 7

Silver Surfer Volume 5.

This was a big hole in my collection and I am very happy to see it filled. Volume 5 of the Silver Surfer main line comic was released during 2003 – 2004. It focuses on tow major storylines which I have obtained some synopsis for below.

Silver Surfer Volume 5, Issue 1 - Communion Part 1

Silver Surfer Volume 5, Issue 1 - Communion Part 1

Communion (Issues 1 – 6)

Small children from around the globe are vanishing without a trace, and reports of the appearance of a gleaming alien figure at the time of their abductions are growing in number. For single mother Denise Walters, caring for her young autistic daughter has been the primary focus of her life – she never imagined becoming embroiled in alien abduction and mankind’s possible Armageddon. But that’s exactly what happens when the Silver Surfer appears in Denise’s home and whisks her daughter away. As Denise delves further into her daughter’s abduction, she begins unraveling the mystery of the Surfer’s motives. Is his strange and alien mind plotting mankind’s salvation, or its ultimate destruction?

Revelation (Issues 7 – 14)

Revelation follows the story where communion left off. Though the Silver Surfer has reunited Denise Waters with her daughter, Stewart Acheron intends to claim Ellie as his own – by any means necessary.

I can not wait to finally read these two storylines as I have heard some good stuff about them. I have also noticed that Communion is available in TB so I will be adding that to my next amazon basket. I have so far been able to see if they made Revelation into a TB so if you know that they have please let me know in the comments below.

Silver Surfer TB Haul

The final part of my haul for now is 4 new TB collections. These are all from the modern 2014+ issues. The main reason I get TB’s along side the actual comics is for a couple of reasons. Firstly I love to collect any release of the Silver Surfer and secondly it enables me to board and bag the issues and still be able to enjoy reading the story lines.

Review : Silver Surfer Vol 8 #1

Hi guys. Thank you all in your patience waiting for me to get this review up. If you follow my twitter @aaron_rackley you will already know that my comic book supplier has been having trouble getting my comics delivered for release days. As such my comic only arrived this morning.

  • Warning : The following article contains Issue Spoilers. Summary : You must read this comic.

I have seen the cover all over the net since the previews started to surface but seeing it in the flesh is even more amazing. It is bright and full of character and culture from Earths past which gives you a hint into what is in store for this issue, however it also sets the series up nicely once again bringing back the Great collaboration between Dan Slott and Michael Allred (who recently done a Q&A for us here) and or course coloured by the wonderful Laura Allred.
CZPx3HCXEAAxV2e

The story starts by bringing us right back to Earth with Dawns dad watching an alien tv broadcast demanding their co operation during a hostile takeover by a race called the Hordax. This transmission is interrupted by The duo that is The Silver Surfer and Dawn Greenwood who promptly informs her father via this transmission she is on her way home.

image004-3d65b

Dawn arrives to what the comic has invented as Happy New Hallow-Givings Birth-Mas! to celebrate all the stuff she has missed since jetting off into the universe with the silver guy during volume 7. It is not long before this normality is interrupted. The Hordax that the duo defeated before coming back to Earth have called in reinforcements and they are now sucking all of Earths culture right from it. During which Michael Allred has snuck in a little Madman Cameo.

The Duo then face off this new batch of Hodaxians ? Can I call them that. The Hordaxians use the culture stolen from Earth to become some of history’s best protagonists.

CZPx-kqWYAA2skw

Do not worry the duo manage to make the invaders return all of Earths culture back, but not before asking why they was taking it. The Duo are informed they were trying to preserve it before it was too late. This is a nice little twist as we as readers are left asking, Why would it need preserving ?

I do not want to give too much more away as the next part of the story does lead into where this series is probably heading. However all I will say is that Ben Grimm from the Fantastic Four encounters a new being called Keeper of the great truth….

You must read the issue for that spoiler to be given as I do not like to ruin all the fun for you Silver Surfer lovers out there.

To wrap up this post I will give this Issue a massive thumbs up and really can not wait to see where the next Issue takes us into the cosmic verse. The run of Volume 7 was a non stop fast pace action adventure and I can see that Volume 8 is not going to let off the steam at all.

Have you read the issue yet? What did you think ? Leave a comment below.

P.S Sorry about the picture quality , due to the speed of getting this post up I did not have time to take pictures with my actual camera so the phone was the best I could do.

Silver Surfer Returns 2016

In 2014 Michael Allred, Dan Slott and Laura Allred Introduced us to a colourful world of non stop alien action as Silver Surfer tackled problem after problem alongside a new companion Dawn Greenwood (very similar to how the doctor who series goes).

Unfortunately this has been a short lived series (15 Issues) due to the Marvel Cross Comic event Secret Wars which saw the Marvel Universe break apart. Silver Surfer Was tied into this story arch with ‘The Last Days Of’ issues (14 – 15).

So where did this leave the story….
Well I am not that mean to spoil it and issue 15 has yet to ship. The question I had for the last few months was. What happens to the series now?

This was answered by a marvel post on the 25th of Septemeber

silver-surfer-no-152713-600x911

That is right the trio will be back to bring Norrin Radd and Dawn Greenwood back to Earth.

“We’ll definitely get back into space before too long, but after a long time away, we’re going to be reconnecting with the Earth and its inhabitants in a big way—and that includes both Dawn and the Surfer,” says series editor Tom Brevoort. “So expect to see a bevy of familiar faces from the past, some with super-powers, some without. And also expect to see the Surfer reacting to the changes that Secret Wars and the eight month gap have wrought on the Marvel Universe.”
